worker steals $15,000 from auto parts stores

A Milwaukee man told police he stole about $15,000 from area auto parts stores over the last year to support a newborn child. The 30-year-old man told police he took between $2,500 and $3,000 from the cash register of Advance Auto Parts, on W. Bluemound Road, while he worked there in recent months. He had entered false returns into the cash register and taken the change. On six or seven occasions, the man told officers, he put a $20 bill into the cash register in an effort to pay the money back. He also told police that he took as much as $12,000 from the Advance Auto Parts store on Highway 100, where he worked prior to the Brookfield location. The money was used to buy baby formula and other items for his child, he said.
